The medieval Kingdom of Northumbria was in what is now Northern England and south-east Scotland. Derived from the Old English Norþan-hymbre meaning “the people or province north of the Humber”, it refelcted the approximate southern limit to the kingdom’s territory.
Tony Robinson sets off across the ancient kingdom of Northumbria, which in the 7th century stretched from Edinburgh to York, on the trail of the truth about St Cuthbert, the greatest saint of his time.
