When the palace was ransacked at about the time of the Revolution, many priceless works of art and furniture were looted and sold abroad – mostly to members of the English nobility. One of the key roles of the Director-General of Versailles – Pierre Arrizoli – is to continue the process of restoring these works to their rightful place back in the palace.
