The Islamic Golden Age was a period of cultural, economic and scientific flourishing in the history of Islam from the 8th century to the 14th century. Starting with the reign of the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid (786 to 809) and the inauguration of the House of Wisdom in Baghdad.

Jim Al-Khalili travels through Syria, Iran, Tunisia and Spain to tell the story of the great leap in scientific knowledge that took place in the Islamic world during this time.
